UGC Recommends ‘Integrity Clubs’ In Universities, Colleges

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all universities and colleges to set up ‘integrity clubs’  for promotion of ethical values which remain ingrained in the minds of the younger generation.

In a communication to all vice-chancellors, UGC has recommended the conduct of workshops during the vigilance awareness week beginning on October 28, administering integrity pledges to faculties and publishing special issues and journals on the adoption of good practices in the institutes.

It said that universities and colleges should also be encouraged to establish ‘integrity clubs’ “so that ethical values practiced through conducted activities are ingrained permanently in the minds of the younger generation”.

One of the key takeaways of the recommendations is to invite parents and eminent persons of the localities during the vigilance awareness week to the campus and making them aware of the following aspects:

  • 1.The admission policy
  • 2.Aims and objectives of the university
  • 3.Facilities provided to the students
  • 4.Role of various committees involved in the management affairs of the university
  • 5. Transparency observed in the procurement process of the university

The Central Vigilance Commission, the apex integrity institution of the country, observes Vigilance Awareness Week every year. This year it is being observed from October 28 to November 2, with the theme ‘Integrity – a way of life’.
