NEW DELHI: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has said all the candidates that those participating in recruitment examinations conducted by it will undergo facial authentication at the examination centres.

“All candidates appearing in the UPSC examination will undergo facial authentication at the venue,” said a note on the UPSC website, upsconline.nic.in.

The UPSC conducts various recruitment examinations for government jobs, including the civil services exam, which selects officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

The UPSC has successfully piloted an artificial intelligence-enabled facial authentication technology during the NDA (National Defence Academy) and NA (Naval Academy) II Examination, as well as the CDS (Combined Defence Services) II Examination, held on September 14, 2025.

This pilot programme took place at select centres in Gurugram, where candidates’ facial images were digitally matched with the photographs submitted in their registration forms.

The new system reduced verification time to an average of just 8 to 10 seconds per candidate, significantly streamlining the entry process while adding an extra layer of security, UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar said.
