Bengaluru:VESCOA, a leading institution in architecture education, has hosted the second ‘Hashu Advani Memorial Workshop’, featuring a panel discussion on the significance of Ekistics—the study of human settlements—in shaping Indian urbanization.
The event saw the attendance of eminent architects, academics, and industry experts, along with students, who explored the multifaceted challenges and opportunities of urban development, the institute said in a press release.
The chief guest of the event Abhay Purohit- President of the Council of Architecture, India- set the tone for the event. Harshad Bhatia, Architect, Urban Designer, and Professor-Design Chair at VESCOA, led the discussion with a comprehensive overview of Ekistics, emphasizing its interdisciplinary nature and potential for solving complex urban issues. He underscored the importance of integrating Ekistics into architectural education.
The guest of honour and keynote speaker, Architect & Planner Vidyadhar Phatak, shared his vast experience and insights on urbanization in India, using global examples to highlight the importance of perspective, prognosis, and planning in creating sustainable urban environments. Abhay Purohit delivered an inspiring speech on the future of the architectural profession, emphasizing the need to adopt disruptive technologies and integrate Indian knowledge systems.
