Vice-Chancellor Flags-Off Masters In Design Course At Jamia Millia Islamia

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has launched a new programme — Masters in Design (MDes) — for the current academic session. The programme was flagged off by JMI Vice-Chancellor Professor Najma Akhtar in a virtual inauguration cum orientation ceremony on Wednesday, December 1.

The varsity will offer the new course under its new department — the Department of Design and Innovation. Besides the JMI Vice-Chancellor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Tasneem Fatma and Registrar Dr Nazim Husain Jafri also graced the occasion.

Professor Najma Akhtar called it a remarkable moment in the history of JMI. An official statement said Jamia has become a leader in providing accessible and affordable quality education emerging as one of the most progressive educational institutions in India.

“One thing that sets us apart is our commitment to delivering the best experiential education and staying abreast with the changing trends in pedagogy, technology and innovation. The department of design will not just lead in its approach to education teaching and learning but attract the best talent from both industry and academia,” the vice-chancellor was quoted as saying in the statement by NDTV.

The varsity will offer MDes to its students amid plans for graduate studies and research degrees in future, added the statement.

The current areas of focus for the department are — Product Design, Interaction Design and Communication Design.
