Vice President Venkaiah Naidu Welcomes Govt’s Decision to Merge Education With Nutrition
New Delhi: Inaugurating a virtual consultant on Friday, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu welcomed the government’s move of providing nutritious breakfast to school students.
Naidu inaugurated the consultant ‘Science for Resilient Food, Nutrition and Livelihoods: Contemporary challenges’ organised by MS Swaminathan Research Foundation.
Speaking at the function, Naidu hailed the central government’s decision to prioritise health and nutrition by providing nutritious breakfast to school students through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “This (announcement in the NEP) is a welcome step but much more needs to be done in the context of pandemic and problems of hunger.”
The Centre’s health and nutrition initiatives include the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, which has benefited more than 98.16 lakh women, the POSHAN Abhiyan and rotavirus vaccination, Naidu added.
Under the newly released education policy, school students will also be provided nutritious breakfast in addition to the mid-day meal.
