Villagers Protest IIT Campus In Goa; Here’s What CM Sawant Says
Panaji: Despite the continuing protests against establishing the IIT campus in the Melaulim village in North Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday that the process of land demarcation in the village jurisdiction will continue.
Villagers pelted stones at the police-escorted government team of land surveyors on Wednesday. Sawant said that dialogues with Melaulim residents will resume once they calm down.
“The demarcation is going on. It will continue. The people have to calm down. We have told them we are willing to discuss,” Sawant was quoted by news agency IANS at the state secretariat.
Earlier on Wednesday, cops were forced to baton charge the protesting villagers. They protested the Revenue department’s exercise of demarcation.
However, the Central government allotted an IIT to Goa in 2014. The institute has been operational from a temporary campus shared by the Goa Engineering College in the Farmagudi village in South Goa so far.
