West Bengal Higher Education Department Starts Collating Staff Vaccination Data In Colleges

Kolkata: In order to resume on-campus activities, the higher education department of the West Bengal government has begun collating data of teaching and non-teaching staff in the state colleges regarding their vaccination status.

Most colleges in the city have taken the staff’s details and submitted them to the higher education department. The department has separately asked for information for those in the age group of 18 to 44 years, and those above 45 years.

“Colleges were told to collect the information on a priority basis. We submitted the information within a week,” principal of Vivekananda College and president of the Calcutta University chapter of All Bengal Principals’ Council, Tapan Kumar Poddar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

According to principals, over 70 per cent of staff under 44 years have not been inoculated yet.

“Once admissions to UG courses begin, many teachers will have to come to college,” said a principal of a college in south Kolkata.
