New Delhi: More than 10 lakh students have enrolled for vocational subjects in 8654 schools across the country till 2018-19, the Centre informed the Parliament on Thursday.
Minister of Human Resource and Development Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said under the ‘samagra siksha’ programme, vocational subjects are being offered from class IX to XII to provide necessary employability and vocational skills for a variety of occupations.
Samagra Shiksha is being implemented in all the states as education is a subject in the Concurrent List and the majority of schools are under the jurisdiction of the state government, he added.
The Minister said NCERT is also updating the course curriculum from time to time. Recently it has included the basic content on Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the textbooks of Economics, Accountancy and Business Studies at different stages.
As part of this curriculum, social and ethical issues related to the use of internet have been dealt with. The focus of the curriculum is on the safe and secure use of web space by students and teachers, he said.
