15K UP Govt Schools Converted Into English Medium

Lucknow: To modernise the education system, as many as 15,000 primary and upper primary schools have been converted into English medium by the Uttar Pradesh government.

The decision is aimed at developing the English speaking skills of the children studying in the government schools, right from the start. It is done to help students compete with missionary and convent school students.

Almost 1.83 crore children are enrolled in more than 1.5 lakh primary and upper primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. Around 60 primary and upper primary schools in Lucknow alone have been converted into English medium schools.

Two or three schools in every block have been developed like private schools.

According to the director of the basic education department Sarvendra Vikram Singh, the hard work and dedication of teachers to equip students of these primary and upper primary schools with English speaking skills has already started paying dividends as they are competing with children of the private schools today, reported news agency IANS.
