51% Students Not To Study Abroad Over Employability Issues Post COVID Pandemic: Reports
New Delhi: Amid the coronavirus outbreak, over 50 per cent non-STEM (science, innovation, building and arithmetic) Indian students who wanted to study abroad have dropped their plans because of employability issues and low return on investments, amongst other limitations post Covid-19 pandemic, according to a report by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an education agency.
While the students with a background in science, designing, technology, and other engineering fields could get exposure in pharmaceutical companies and can work in the field of development and innovation.
However, the opportunities for the non-STEM students might not be satisfactory, the report title ‘Indian student Mobility Report 2020’ suggested.
“The significantly lower return of investment in an already expensive international higher education domain coupled with further reduced chances of employability in the post Covid-19 world have a key role to play in this shift,” The Print quoted the report.
“The figure for non-STEM students is at 51.59 per cent. Overall, the pandemic has affected the decision of 48.46 per cent students who aspired to study abroad,” it added.
Moreover, the aftermath of the pandemic would not only impact the international student mobility but also the inter-state mobility of students, the report claimed.
