Sambalpur: A total of 50 under-graduate (UG) sixth-semester commerce students of Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) couldn’t appear for their final year examinations online due to technical fault on Tuesday.
The UG examinations of all the 23 departments were arranged in six sittings during the day. The online semester examination for post-graduate (PG) courses began on Monday.
However, a technical glitch occurred during the final semester Commerce examinations in the third sitting. The students were appearing for their elective-III paper on Tuesday.
According to GMU Deputy Registrar UC Pati, the Commerce stream has students in large numbers and to ensure that they can appear for exams without difficulty, it was decided to make the server ready for 500 examinees.
While 380 final year commerce students sat for the examination, around 50 of them reported technical fault while attempting to take it. The examinations of the rest 22 UG departments were held without any hiccups.
Pati said the technical team is looking into the issue. The controller of examinations will also submit a report. After the probe, it will be clear whether the candidates had network problems at their end or a server issue. Pati assured that alternative arrangements will be there for students who missed the exams.
