IIIT Council Allows Lateral Movement Of Students For M.Tech, MBA Courses
Faculties can also move to another IIIT for a semester to tide over the shortage of teachers
Students of Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) will be allowed to join integrated MTech and MBA in other IIITs, subject to fulfilment of minimum criteria, the IIIT Council has decided.
The IIITs are a group of institutes of higher education in India, focused on Information Technology. The 20 IIITs are partially supported by the government and are required to become self-sufficient in a short span of time.
According to an official statement, the IIIT Council has approved a proposal for the movement of students of one IIIT to another IIIT or any foreign institute for short periods during summer or internship.
Similarly, the faculty can also move to another IIIT for a semester or half a semester in order to tide over the shortage of faculty.
The council also cleared the decks to start a joint PhD Programme with other IIITs in line with the IITs.
The council had met under the chairmanship of Human Resource and Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Thursday. At the meeting, the chairman was authorised to appoint a Director in case of a vacancy for short periods, or on a temporary charge.
In another move, the council has allowed the IIITs to provide an exit option for academically weaker students. They can opt for a BSc in their respective disciplines and get a basic degree after completing their programme within limited semesters.
