Karnataka Emerges Most Innovative State In Niti Aayog Study
Karnataka has emerged as the most innovative state in India, a study conducted by Niti Aayog in partnership with the Institute of Competitiveness has said.
The ‘India Innovation Index 2019’ placed Tamil Nadu at the second position, followed by Maharashtra, Telangana and Haryana.
The study shows that the innovation ecosystem of the country is strongest in south and western parts of India.
The ranking of the states has been based on the following factors:
• Human capital
• Investment
• Knowledge workers
• Business environment
• Safety and Legal environment
The other factors that have also been taken into consideration are:
*Knowledge output
*Knowledge diffusion
Among states, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Jharkhand are at the bottom of the index, while Delhi, Chandigarh and Goa have topped the list among union territories.
Sikkim takes the top spot among the North-Eastern and Hill states. “Philosophy of naming and shaming states will help them to innovate,” said Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, the Economic Times reported.
The idea behind the index, which has been developed over last one-and-a-half-year, is to analyse innovation at state level. The index ranks the states based on their innovation capability, the challenges and opportunities that lie for states and actions needed by policymakers to foster.
