Bhubaneswar: Speakers participating at a conference on media in South Asia have stressed on revamping the course curriculum on journalism and syncronising the content with the cultural and social aspects of the region and the surroundings.
In his address, founding Director of Centre for Culture, Media & Governance of Jamia Millia Islamia Prof Biswajit Das said the course should reflect the culture and societal values of the particular region. He said western culture should not be the idle format and objective of journalism education.
He was speaking at the 2nd edition of two days South Asia Communication Conference (SACC) on the theme “Journalism Education in South Asia: Is there any paradigm shift in over 100 years?”. It was inaugurated at School of Mass Communication, KIIT Deemed to be University on December 19.
CEO of KIIT’s School of Mass Communication, Film and Media Sciences & Fashion Technology Prof Himansu Sekhar Khatua emphasised on the need for a change of syllabus and curriculum, writing research papers, the requirement of communication experts to help young journalists in their training.
Abstract book of the conference which consists of 24 research papers from various participants from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India was unveiled.
