Meritorious students Awarded Medals At 4th Graduation Ceremony Of World Skill Centre
BHUBANESWAR: The fourth graduation ceremony of World Skill Centre, a state-of-the-art global skilling facility established by the Odisha government was held in Bhubaneswar.
Minister of Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Department Sampad Chandra Swain attended the programme as the chief guest and congratulated the students who completed their training in the 2023-24 Batch.
The Minister also inaugurated the Centre of Excellence in Welding at the World Skill Centre (WSC) premises and launched the ‘Nano Unicorn’ programme which aims to promote various entrepreneurs at the grassroots level. Each ‘Nano Unicorn’ will be given a seed money of Rs. 1 Lakh for setting up their ventures.
“Under the state government’s ‘Skilled in Odisha’ vision, skill development programmes for the youth are being augmented to help them realise their potential. Various programmes are being undertaken to help the youth succeed in the field of innovation. Initiatives such as setting up centres of excellence in welding and nano unicorns will help in upskilling the youth of Odisha and inculcate entrepreneurial spirit in them,” said Minister Sampad Chandra Swain.
The graduation ceremony was organised on November 11 at the World Skill Centre campus.
The best students from each course under School of Engineering and School of Services were awarded as ‘Best Trainee’. Certificates were given away to all the students who completed the one-year advanced training in seven trades.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to students who secured the first, second and third positions respectively in each trade. Twenty-one students were felicitated.
100% placement
NBS Rajput, Principal Secretary, Department of Skill Development and Technical Education, took part in the programme as a special guest. “The youth of Odisha are getting placements with national and international companies after receiving industry-ready training in various cutting-edge subjects at the World Skill Centre. 100% placement success in vertical transportation course is a shining example of the same. The government is planning various programme to take the skills of the youth to new heights,” said Rajput.
V.V. Kamath, Managing Director, Fronius India attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Rashmita Panda, CEO of Odisha Skill Development Authority and World Skill Centre, delivered the welcome address. T. Thambyrajah, Principal World Skill Centre, proposed the vote of thanks.
Industry-ready courses
Students, after completing training in various advanced and industry-ready courses World Skill Centre get employment opportunities in various national and international companies through placement drive.
Tata Strive COO Ameya Vanjari, AM/NS HR head Sunila Das, AM/NS East India HR head Dr. Debabrata Dash, Pollutech COO Bibhas Mohanty, Aroma Group Director Arup Ranjan Mishra, JSPL General Manager (HR) and Employee Relations Banabasa Acharya, Abhishek Nath, General Manager and Nrusingha Nath Sahu, Manager (HR) of Swasti Grand Hotel and Subhrajit Parida, Area Manager of Green Trends attended the event.
Among others, Pinaki Patnaik, Additional Secretary of the Department and COO World Skill Centre, Bruce Poh, CEO ITEES Singapore and Jeetamitra Satapathy, Deputy Principal WSC attended the ceremony.
‘Skilled in Odisha’ programme
Under the ‘Skilled in Odisha’ programme, the World Skill Centre has been set up by Odisha Skill Development Authority and Department of Skill Development and Technical Education. This global and industry-leading state-of-the-art training institute is recognised as a unique facility in the country in the domain of skill development among youth, thereby strengthening the vision of a ‘Viksit Odisha’.
