‘SCOPES-2024’ At Centurion University Deliberates Upon Opportunities And Challenges Of Emerging Technologies

The conference unites 650 global experts, featuring 242 reviewed papers, keynote sessions, and academia-industry collaboration on cutting-edge technologies

BHUBANESWAR: The second international conference on Signal Processing, Communication, Power, and Embedded Systems (SCOPES-2024) hosted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) served as a vibrant platform for academic and industry experts to share their knowledge and innovations.

Prof. G. S. N. Raju, Chancellor of CUTM, Andhra Pradesh participated in the inaugural of the three-day event; while Dr. P. S. R. Srinivasa Sastry, Founder & Former Director of DSP, DRDO, Hyderabad; Prof. Ganapati Panda, former Director of IIT Bhubaneswar; and Prof. H.K. Ratha, retired Director of ITR, Chandipur and Chair of IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-Section were the guests of honour.

The event began with the welcome addresses by Prof. Supriya Pattanayak, Vice-Chancellor of CUTM, and Prof. Anita Patra, General Chair and Registrar of the University. They highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and global collaboration.

Dr. Debendra Kumar Sahoo, Organising Chair, briefed about the conference’s objectives, emphasising its focus on emerging technologies.

The conference witnessed overwhelming participation, with 654 research papers submitted by authors from across the world. More than 900 reviewers from across the globe provided their valuable feedback on these technical papers on virtual mode.

After a rigorous review process, 242 papers were selected for presentation, including 12 international submissions from countries such as the USA, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia. The selected papers covered a diverse range of topics, including signal processing, communication systems, power electronics, and embedded technologies.

The SCOPES-2024 featured insightful keynote sessions led by esteemed professionals. Dr. P.S.R. Srinivasa Sastry, Founder and Former Director, DSP, DRDO, Hyderabad, delivered a presentation on advancements in defense signal processing.

Prof. Naeem Hannoon of University of Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, spoke about the automation of substations and introduced the concept of Smart Grids, capable of self-healing, equipped with dynamic optimisation techniques, real-time measuring equipment, and asset management tools.

Industry 4.0 and digitalisation

Dr. Raffaele Scuderi, Electromagnetics Industry Process Consultant and SIMULIA EMAG Specialist, discussed innovations in industrial processes and how Industry 4.0 and digitalisation promise significant advancements in efficiency, productivity, and sustainability through 5G private networks.

Ms. Renuka Srinivasan, Director, SIMULIA India, Dassault Systems, presented on simulation-driven engineering, focusing on the design of simulation-driven antenna systems for enhanced performance and efficiency.

Prof. Ganapati Panda, Former Deputy Director, IIT Bhubaneswar, delivered a talk on bio-inspired techniques in signal processing and communication systems, with applications in biomedical engineering, active noise control, natural language processing, and intelligent sensors.

Mr. Sunil Sabat, Principal Programme Manager, Microsoft Corporation, discussed designing data-driven modern electronic systems in the era of cloud and AI.

Prof. H.K. Ratha, Chair, IEEE Bhubaneswar Sub-section & Retired Director, ITR, Chandipur, encouraged IEEE membership and emphasised its benefits in technical education.

Mr. Purna Chandra Mohanty, CEO, Marquee Semiconductor, talked about the key technologies, challenges, and opportunities in the global semiconductor market.

Defence technology

Dr. Jagannath Nayak, Director, DRDO, Hyderabad, emphasised the future of warfare driven by AI, robotics, and hypersonic weaponry, with DRDO spearheading advancements.

The chief guest of the valedictory Dr. Jagannath Nayak shared insights on defence technology and innovation, highlighting India’s potential as a global leader in science and technology.

Prof. D. K. Sahoo, Organising Chair, delivered the valedictory address, emphasizing the importance of fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to drive innovation.

Sustainability & global challenges

Dr. Mukti Kanta Mishra, President, Centurion University, emphasised the critical role of sustainability in addressing global challenges like climate change, resource depletion, and social inequality.

Prof. Biswajit Mishra, Pro Vice-Chancellor, shared visions for the future of research and education.

The session included participant experiences and the felicitation of dignitaries by Prof. Ashok Mishra, Convener of SCOPES-2024. The conference united over 650 global experts, featuring 242 reviewed papers, keynote sessions, and academia-industry collaboration on cutting-edge technologies.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Prafulla Kumar Panda, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. The conference concluded on a high note, inspiring participants to push the boundaries of innovation and contribute to societal progress.
