Rourkela: The National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (NIT-R) has set an ambitious goal of extending scholarships to nearly 2,000 students in the 2026-27 academic year, strengthening support for meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds.
Institute officials said NIT-R is collaborating with leading corporates to expand scholarship coverage. MoUs are being proposed with organisations such as Groww, Adani Group, Rupa Bajaj, and other industry partners to mobilise additional financial aid.
Scholarship numbers have steadily risen in recent years — from 857 students supported by 25 organisations in 2022-23, to 1,670 students aided by 62 providers in 2025-26.
Registrar, Prof Rohan Dhiman highlighted that “special scholarship schemes are available for SC, ST, OBC, economically weaker section, and female students. These scholarships usually cover tuition fees, hostel charges or other academic activities.”
Assistant Registrar (Academics) Dipti Ranjan Das added, “Scholarships are offered through multiple sources including contributions from Central and state governments, corporate sectors and alumni of the institute.”
With this expansion, NIT-R aims to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder access to quality education for deserving students.
