Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has written to all the Vice-Chancellors and Pro Vice-Chancellors of all the government-aided universities in the state to participate in a virtual meeting scheduled on July 15 at 11 am.
The objective of the meeting is to discuss the issues faced by the students in wake of the ongoing pandemic.
“Both as Governor and Chancellor, the interests of the student community is of the highest priority with me. Several issues from time to time have come to be flagged to me by anxious students. COVID-19 has been adversely impactful on all of us in varied ways. It has stressed our students’ community as never before,” wrote the Governor in his letter.
The Governor has directed the VCs to identify the problems faced by the students in various courses by July 13, so that it can be discussed during the virtual meeting.
The decision has come in the wake of the revised guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission on conducting term-end examinations by September 20.
On June 27, the West Bengal Education Department had announced that there will be no final semester exams conducted at the state-aided universities.
“As guardian of the students, you are fully aware that any delay in such kind of situation, does not send a wholesome signal to the student community, whose interest with all of us is of prime concern and consequence,” said Jagdeep Dhankhar.
All educational institutes in the state will remain closed till July 31.
