Amaravati: A total of 262 students and about 160 teachers tested COVID-19 positive in Andhra Pradesh in the past three days after schools were reopened in the state on November 2. The schools reopened for Classes IX and X students, a senior school education officer said on Thursday.
According to Commissioner of School Education, V Chinna Veerabhadrudu, the figure is not alarming when compared to the number of students attending the schools.
“Yesterday (November 4) around four lakh students attended schools. There were 262 positive cases. It is not even 0.1 per cent. It is not correct to say that they were affected due to their attendance to schools. We ensure that each school room has only 15 or 16 students… It is not alarming,” Veerabhadrudu was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Going by the statistics from the education department, 9.75 lakh students registered for Classes IX and X in the state among them 3.93 lakh attended. Out of 1.11 lakh teachers, more than 99,000 attended the schools on Wednesday.
