Dehradun: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee will begin research to identify the antiviral to treat Coronavirus.
The step came after the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) gave a green signal to the proposal of Professor Pravindra Kumar from the Department of Biotechnology, IIT Roorkee.
Preparations for the research have already been done by the fruition of silico work dependent on a high throughput virtual screening way to deal with survey the coupling liking of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)- endorsed drugs focusing on Mopar- a viral protease.
The main aim of the research is to find antiviral to cure to the deadly coronavirus. It will speed up the process of drugs. The whole process will be done through an in-silico medium, which is based on computer assistant simulation of their molecular construction.
“I would like to thank the Science and Engineering Research Board for reposing faith in us,” said Prof. Kumar.
“This approach can be pathbreaking in the identification of antiviral molecules to fight COVID-19,” said Prof. Ajit K Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, as quoted by HT.
The research will be done in association with Dr Gaurav Sharma, Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Izatnagar and Professor Shailly Tomar, Biotechnology Department, IIT Roorkee.
