AP Govt Does Away With Personal Interviews For Recruitment

The Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to do away with interview rounds for staff recruitment.

According to news reports, the State Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made the announcement after conducting a review meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) on Thursday.

  • Key takeaways from the review meeting:
Appointments to government posts will be done only through a written examination.
  • The state government could hire IITs and IIMs to handle the recruitment exercise more professionally.
  • Recruitment tests to fill up the vacant posts to be done between January 1 to 31 every year.
  • Priority will be given to fill up those posts which are directly linked to providing emergency services to the citizens.

During the meeting, officials told the CM that all the recruitment notifications issued by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission were ending up in litigations.

Earlier, the Narendra Modi government at the Centre had announced to scrap personal interviews for certain Group C and Group D posts in central government. The Centre had reasoned that interviews to such posts were unwarranted and that they were inviting corruption.
