New Delhi: Many students dream of studying in prestigious educational institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) or Indian Institute of Science (IISC). However, with the study cost of even one semester being nearly Rs 1 lakh, it’s a put off for many aspirants. But take heart as certain scholarships make it more financially feasible to apply to these institutes.
Here’s a list:
1) Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund Scholarship
Postgraduate (PG) students registered in PhD programmes from esteemed institutes like IIT and IISC can apply for this scholarship in several areas of specialisation.
Eligibility –
Students can be Indian or from other Asian countries, not more than 35 years old, enrolled in PhD programmes and holding a first class PG degree with a minimum of 60 per cent marks in aggregate in both graduate and PG level.
Scholarship Details –
A maintenance allowance of Rs 18,000 including tuition fee per month, along Rs 15,000 per annum for other expenses like study tours, study material purchases etc.

2) Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship IIT Ropar
Students who wish to carry out research projects in IIT Ropar can apply for this, mandatorily within five years of their PhD completion.
Eligibility
Only Indian candidates who have completed their PhD under guidance of an IIT Ropar faculty member, and also have submitted their thesis are eligible.
Scholarship details
A Rs 55,000 fellowship along with hostel accommodation (if requested) will be provided

3) Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF)
IITs, IISERs, IISC Bengaluru are some of the institutes that offer PMRF through a rigorous selection process.
Eligibility
Students must be Indian citizens, having completed or pursuing their final year of MTech, with a 8.0 CGPA/CPI, and must have qualified for The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
Scholarship details
Rs 18,000 research fellowship per year, along with eligibility for Rs two lakh per year research grant (total of 10 lakhs for five years.

4) Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE)
This scholarship aims to facilitate mobility of state universities/colleges faculty members and enable to them conduct research in IITs, IISC, IISERs and other central universities.
Eligibility
Candidates must be no more than 45 years old Indian citizens residing in India, having completed a PhD degree in Science or MS/MD in Medicine, or ME/MTech in Engineering/Technology, holding a regular academic research position in state and private academic institutions, and have no ongoing reseach or fellowship during application.
Scholarship details
A research fellowship of Rs 60,000 per year, and a five lakh research grant per annum (50 per cent each to host and parent institution) and overheads (as per SERB norms) will be provided.
