Aurangabad: Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district reopened schools for classes IX and X on Monday, even as a couple of teachers tested positive for COVID-19, according to a civic official.
While allowing schools to reopen for Classes IX and X, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation has made COVID test mandatory for teachers. Schools have been closed since March last year following the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.
During the period of December 28 to January 3, as many as 1,358 teachers and other school staff underwent RT-PCR tests. Among them, two teachers and a staff member have tested COVID-19 positive so far, the official revealed.
However, the reopening of schools was welcomed by parents, teachers and educational institutes. “However, some students were sent back home as they didn’t have consent of their parents. The students are enthusiastic about coming back to school and we will surely see a rise in the number in the coming days,” civic body’s education officer Ramnath Thore was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
A senior teacher of a private school, Ajay Nilangekar said students turned up in good numbers in the morning. “We have almost one-third strength on the first day. The classes will take place for four hours every day. Sanitisation of the premises is done before the school starts and will be done again after the classes are over,” Nilangekar told the agency.
