NEW DELHI: The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has decided to offer full tuition scholarships to candidates securing a rank among the top 1,000 in its entrance examination, BITSAT, from 2027 session.
The scholarship will be available to students whose annual family income does not exceed Rs 20 lakh, BITS Pilani Group Vice-Chancellor V Ramgopal Rao said.
The scholarship will cover the entire tuition fee for all four years of the undergraduate programme, subject to students maintaining a minimum CGPA of 7.5 at their respective campuses.
BITS Pilani Expands 100% Tuition Fee Scholarships to Top 1,000 BITSAT Rankers for the Full Duration of Their Degree
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani has announced the extension of its tuition-blind admissions initiative from the top 500 to the top 1,000 BITSAT rankers from the coming admission year through BITSAT 2027. The decision doubles the number of students who can join BITS Pilani with the assurance that tuition will not be a barrier.
Eligible candidates with an annual family income of up to Rs. 20 lakhs will receive a full tuition scholarship for all four years, subject to maintaining a minimum CGPA of 7.5 at their respective campuses. The scholarship is built into the admission offer, and students do not need to apply for it after joining, so top performers can choose BITS Pilani based on aspiration and opportunity, not affordability.
In 2026, the number of eligible top-500 rankers who joined BITS Pilani increased by 50%, and the BITSAT score needed to be in that group went up from 314 to 324. The effect spread beyond the students the initiative was meant for. Eligible students ranked 501 to 1,000, who were not covered, also came in larger numbers, and joiners from the top 1,000 as a whole rose by 50%.
“Commenting on the announcement, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, said, “The initiative builds on a long tradition of scholarship-led support. In the academic year 2025-26 alone, BITS Pilani disbursed about Rs. 190 crores in scholarships, fee waivers and fellowships across its First Degree, Higher Degree and Ph.D. programmes. Of this, Rs. 101 crores went to First Degree (undergraduate) students through merit, merit-cum-need and international student scholarships, enabling one in every four students across our campuses to receive financial assistance. The Institute intends to keep expanding coverage progressively, with the long-term goal of tuition-free admissions for all.”
