Bhubaneswar: The BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — have proposed to embed artificial intelligence (AI) into their education systems, .
The bold plan was unveiled at the 13th BRICS Education Ministers’ Meeting in Bhubaneswar.
“AI must be human-centered, ethical, and inclusive,” said an Indian education official, underscoring the bloc’s commitment to responsible deployment. “We are not just adopting technology; we are shaping it to serve the well-being of learners.”
Priorities
The key priorities will include integrating AI into digital literacy programs to prepare students and teachers for emerging technologies.
Plus, universities and training centers across BRICS will collaborate to develop AI applications in teaching and administration.
Industry linkages are also central to the plan with focus on AI-enabled training to align with market demands to ensure that graduates are ready for future industries. “Our vocational institutions must connect directly with industries through AI-driven hubs. This is how students will gain real-world experience,” said a Brazilian representative.
Also, a proposed BRICS University Ranking will use AI analytics to benchmark institutional performance. “Sharing best practices across our countries will accelerate innovation in early childhood care, literacy, and numeracy,” a South African delegate at the meeting said.

The BRICS leaders insisted that AI is more than a tool — it is a framework for collaboration and sustainable development. As one Chinese policymaker put it: “Responsible AI use will underpin both academic excellence and workforce competitiveness. That is our shared future.”
