Aligarh: Mohammad Tariq, the research scholar at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), who lost his hand in the December 15 violent incident on the campus, has been engaged as an ad-hoc teacher in the Chemistry department.
The 26-year-old Chemistry scholar has been appointed as an assistant professor on ad-hoc basis, Times of India reported on Tuesday.
Tariq was admitted to the trauma unit of Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital along with four other students after they were injured in clashes on December 15. The PhD student hails from a poor family and was looking to support his family of six after his studies.
“The university took a humanitarian view of his condition and family circumstances and decided to appoint him as an assistant professor,” AMU Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor told the newspaper.
There are allegations that the police had cracked down brutally on protesting students who had collected inside the campus on December protesting enactment of CAA.
