New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia has written to Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, requesting him to cancel the remaining Central Board for Senior Education (CBSE) Class X and XII Board examinations scheduled to begin from July 1. The letter dated June 17, cited reasons why the state cannot conduct the remaining examinations, reported Times Now News.
In the letter, Sisodia has said that 343 schools are being used by the state to tackle Coronavirus emergencies. Of these, 251 are being used as distribution centres, 39 as shelter relief centres, 33 as hunger relief centres, 10 as transit migrant camps and 10 as quarantine centres. In the given situation, there aren’t enough schools for conducting the exams. Moreover, the safety of the students remains the top priority.
At present, Delhi is the third most coronavirus affected city with 1,837 reported deaths and 44,688 confirmed cases. With 242 containment zones in the state, it is uncertain how the students from these areas would appear for the examination. In view of these concerns, the education minister has urged that they should be cancelled. “Building confidence and capacity of schools to welcome our children back to resume teaching and learning activities whenever it is possible instead of getting stuck with the remaining exams,” added Sisodia.
The Supreme Court has also requested CBSE to reconsider cancelling the examinations and mark the students as per their performance in the pre-board examination.
