CBSE, AIIMS-Delhi Launch Project ‘MATE’ For School Counsellors To Improve Students’ Wellness

The five-day programme aims to equip school counselors with frameworks to address issues such as stress, loneliness, and emotional disconnection among students

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi, has launched a five-day offline training programme under Project MATE (Mind Activation Through Education).

The training, which began on August 26 at the AIIMS Delhi, will conclude on August 30.

According to CBSE, Project MATE has been developed as an adolescent wellness programme by AIIMS Delhi to enhance resilience, build coping strategies, and strengthen peer connectivity through the “MATE-5” framework.

The programme initially involves about 50 counsellors and wellness teachers from CBSE-affiliated schools in the Delhi-NCR region.

The five-day course is being facilitated by experts from psychiatry, psychology, and communication fields. The sessions cover themes, including the biopsychosocial model of health, nutrition, family and social roles, coping with anxiety, counseling approaches, and digital well-being.

Participants will be trained in parental sensitisation, impact assessment tools, and developing peer support systems.

At the inaugural, officials from CBSE and AIIMS emphasised the need to integrate education and health for student well-being.

According to an official statement, the programme is intended to equip school counselors with structured frameworks to address issues such as stress, loneliness, and emotional disconnection among students.

Through this collaboration, CBSE and AIIMS aim to provide school counselors with tools that support emotional resilience, conflict resolution, and social connectedness among students.

CBSE has indicated that outcomes of this pilot training will be monitored through follow-ups, and based on the results, the programme may be scaled up for wider national implementation.
