New Delhi: Two experts of English and Sociology subjects have been dropped from the Central Board of Secondary Examination’s (CBSE) paper-setting panels. The experts came in for severe criticism since the Term 1 Board examinations, which were held in November-December 2020.
Headed by former Controller of Examinations Pavnesh Kumar, the CBSE has formed a committee to review the process of paper-setting.
A huge controversy erupted on a question asked in the CBSE Class XII Term 1 Sociology paper. The question was asked which had multiple options.
Question: “The unprecedented scale and spread of anti-Muslim violence in Gujarat in 2002 took place under which government?” Options: “Congress”, “BJP”, “Democratic” and “Republican”.
Another controversy erupted over a question set for the Class X English exam that carried a comprehension passage with sentences like “emancipation of women destroyed the parent’s authority over the children” and “it was only by accepting her husband’s way that a mother could gain obedience over the younger ones,” among several others.
Following brutal trolling and condemnation, the CBSE was forced to drop the passage and issue a clarification.
“To ensure uniformity and parity, full marks will also be awarded to students for passage No 1 for all Sets of the question paper Class X English language and Literature,” the CBSE had added.
