NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday extended the deadline for Class 12 answer sheet verification and re-evaluation applications by 24 hours, pushing the cutoff from June 6 midnight to June 7 midnight.
The board said the decision was taken in the interest of students.
“In the interest of students, CBSE has decided to extend the last date for submission of applications for Verification and Re-evaluation of Question(s) for the Class XII Board Examinations, thereby providing students additional time and support to complete the process,” the board posted on social media platform X.

The move comes amid a surge in grievance filings. As of June 4, more than 70,000 applications had been submitted through CBSE’s grievance redressal portal — 7,314 for verification of marks and 63,119 for re-evaluation.
JEE Advanced students in fix
The one-day window carries particular urgency for students seeking admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology.
IIT Roorkee, the organising institute for JEE Advanced 2026, has said that students whose Class 12 scores currently fall below the mandatory 75 per cent eligibility threshold — due to suspected marking errors — may participate in JoSAA counselling, provided they submit revised scorecards by July 15.
For these students, missing Saturday’s re-evaluation deadline could cost them their IIT seat.
On-Screen Marking row
The surge in applications traces back to CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, introduced for Class 12 evaluations in 2026. Complaints began almost immediately after results were declared, with students and teachers flagging inconsistencies in how answer sheets had been assessed.
The backlash drew high-level attention. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan personally intervened, holding meetings with the Finance Minister and directing public sector banks to reinforce the board’s payment gateway infrastructure — which had also come under a cyberattack around the same time.
Students wishing to apply for verification or re-evaluation can do so through the CBSE grievance redressal portal before June 7 midnight.
