CBSE Releases New Curriculum 2026-27 For Classes 9 To 12

The new curriculum introduces a scheme of studies for Class 9 and emphasises competency and skill-based learning.

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the curriculum for the academic session 2026-27 for class 9 to 12.

In the curriculum the board introduced several updates aligned with the recommendations of the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-2023).

The revised curriculum has been made available for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 on the official CBSE Academic Portal under the “Curriculum 2026-27” section.

According to the board, the changes aim to modernise school education and bring it in line with evolving learning needs.

One of the major updates this year is the introduction of a new scheme of studies for Class 9, marking a structured shift in how subjects and learning outcomes are organised at the secondary level.

The complete Curriculum documents for Classes IX–XII will be available at the usual place on the CBSE Academic Portal, i.e., the ‘Curriculum 2026-27 tab’ at https://cbseacademic.nic.in/curriculum_2027.html

All affiliated schools have been requested to download the complete curriculum, including the initial pages, and share it widely with teachers and students for immediate reference.

Schools are advised to make necessary arrangements for implementing the changes in accordance with the guidelines provided in the initial pages.

Schools shall ensure strict adherence to the prescribed curriculum and the guidelines provided in the initial pages, as well as those specified within individual subject curricula.

The curriculum reflects alignment with the vision and principles of NCF-2023, focusing on competency-based education, experiential learning, flexibility, and holistic development of learners.

Heads of Institutions are advised to sensitise teachers and organise special Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) to apprise parents and students of the salient features of the curriculum changes and ensure effective implementation from the beginning of the Academic Session 2026–27.

Meanwhile, the curriculum for Classes 11 and 12 was released on April 1, 2026, followed by the curriculum for Classes 9 and 10 on April 2, 2026. To help schools, teachers and students understand the changes better, CBSE is also conducting a special webinar to clarify the revised scheme of studies and other updates.
