CBSE To Issue Migration Certificates For Classes 10, 12 Students Through DigiLocker

The CBSE has announced that it will no longer issue physical migration certificates for Classes 10 and 12 from this academic year

NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the physical copies of class 10 and 12 students’ migration certificates will no longer be issued, starting this academic year, adding that the document will be available through DigiLocker.

A migration certificate is an official document issued by an educational board that enables a student to transfer from one school or board to another. It confirms that the student has successfully completed their studies under the issuing board and is eligible to continue education elsewhere.

The CBSE will provide digitally signed migration certificates through DigiLocker, the government’s secure digital platform for storing and accessing official documents. These digital certificates hold the same legal validity as their physical counterparts and are recognized by all higher educational institutions (HEIs) across India.

This move aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive urging universities to accept documents available on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker as valid academic records.

The CBSE has also announced that the migration certificate will now be available free of charge. Once the board declares results, the digital certificates will be uploaded directly to each student’s DigiLocker account.

However, if a student still needs a printed version during the transition phase, they can apply for one through the Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) portal at cbseit.in. The requested document will then be verified, processed, and dispatched to the student’s address.

How to Download CBSE Migration Certificates Through DigiLocker

Step 1: Visit the DigiLocker website or open the mobile app.

Step 2: Log in using your registered credentials.

Step 3: Set up your PIN if you haven’t.

Step 4: Go to the ‘Issued Documents’ section.

The CBSE has introduced a six-digit access code for activating DigiLocker accounts. Schools are responsible for distributing these codes to students. Those who haven’t received theirs should contact their school administration.
