Certificate Course On Sambalpuri Fabric Designing At This Odisha University

Bhubaneswar: Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) is planning to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT), Bargarh, and the Sambalpuri Bastralaya Handloom Cooperative Society to start a value-based certificate course on Sambalpuri handloom fabric designing.

Vice-chancellor of the university N Nagaraju told TOI that the memorandum would be signed once a permanent director is appointed for IIHT. Anyone, who has passed matriculation, will be eligible to apply for the six-month course.

The course is aimed at teaching designing skills to the youths, who are engaged in weaving. After completion of the course, the students will get a certificate from the institution, which would help them to get loans from banks.

GMU plans to take help from the resources of IIHT and invite their faculties to run the courses. If the students are willing then they can pursue the add-on certificate courses, while doing their Plus III or post-graduation at the university.
