Chandigarh: Chandigarh Smart City Ltd (CSCL) will adhere to social distancing norms while developing the smart classrooms for government schools here in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
A proposal to develop 90 smart classrooms in the city’s four government schools has been accepted. According to the plan, a primary school in Sector 22 along with three senior secondary schools in sectors 35 and 43 will have the facilities of smart classrooms. They will be equipped with interactive boards, smart lighting, projectors, fire alarms, etc. The seating arrangement will also be in consonance with the social distancing norms.
“Following social distancing norms in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic has become a priority. After detailed deliberations, it was decided to make changes in the seating plan. Now, there will be individual benches for every student instead of two students sharing a bench,” CSCL chief general manager NP Sharma said while confirming the development. “The classroom strength will remain the same,” he added.
The revamped plan will add to the project cost. The project cost was pegged at around Rs 5 crore. “The new furniture requirements will add around Rs 1.5 crore to the project cost,” Sharma revealed.
