Recently days, the NCERT has introduced several new textbooks for Classes 5 and 8. Those include Malhar – Hindi Textbook (Class 8); Veena – Hindi Textbook (Class 5); Santoor – English Textbook (Class 5); Kriti – Art Textbook (Class 8); Poorvi – English Textbook (Class 8).
In the first volume of the book ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond’, the NCERT has flagged episodes of brutality, temple destruction, and religious persecution during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal periods.
Describing Babur as a “brutal and ruthless conqueror, slaughtering entire populations of cities”, Akbar’s reign as a “blend of brutality and tolerance”, and Aurangzeb who destroyed temples and gurdwaras, the NCERT’s new Class 8 Social Science textbook points to “many instances of religious intolerance” during the period.
