Class X & XI Students To Be Promoted Without Exams In Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister EK Palaniswami declared that Class X & XI students would be promoted without exams while the fate of Class XII students would be decided soon. The decision came in the wake of Madras High Court’s order of suspending all remaining board exams.

Going by Palaniswami’s version, the call was taken after consulting medical experts who don’t think it’s conducive to hold SSLC and Plus One exams given the situation. The state has decided to promote students based on their internal assessments and attendance.

As per new method, 80 per cent of the marks will be divided between quarterly and half-yearly examinations while the rest 20 per cent will be purely based on attendance, the chief minister said.

It may be recalled that Tamil Nadu government had taken a decision to hold pending TN SSLC exams in between June 15 and 26. In that case, the evaluation process would have been completed by August, but the Madras High Court ruling amidst COVID-19 pandemic came in the way.
