Bhubaneswar: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to cancel the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) Class XII exams, the CISCE too decided to call off the ICSE Class XII exams.
The trend was followed in more states with Odisha announcing its decision on Friday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered the cancellation exam conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE).
He said the safety of students is a priority of his government. “All the stakeholders would have to face a lot of trouble if the board examinations were conducted amid the second wave of the pandemic,” Naveen said.
Maharashtra had on Thursday called off its Class XII state board exams, following proposal from the school education department of the state.
The Maharashtra government would soon decide on the assessment criteria and the result declaration date, informed state education minister Varsha Gaikwad.
Uttar Pradesh had also canceled the class XII examination on Thursday. The call was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in which Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who holds the Secondary Education portfolio, was also in attendance.
