Common Eligibility Test Can Be Availed By States, UTs For Job Selection: Minister

New Delhi: States and Union Territories can avail the Common Eligibility Test (CET) to be conducted by National Recruitment Agency (NRA) for job selection.

Union Minister of State, Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh has said that the CET score could be shared with recruiting agencies of states and Union Territories, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and private sector, reported PTI. The minister said it will help in saving cost and time spent on recruitment.

The minister suggested that an arrangement could be put in place so that the CET score can be used by these agencies and organisations. This could eventually prove to be a win-win arrangement for the employer as well as employee, Singh added.

He informed that he and the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) were in touch with many state and Union Territory governments which have expressed their interest to be a part of the sharing arrangement of CET score.

He clarified that for those who are appearing for the exam, relaxation in the upper age limit shall be given to candidates of SC/ST/OBC and other categories, as per government policy.

He also reiterated that the CET will have no correlation or incompatibility with the rules of recruitment like domicile etc. followed by certain states and Union Territories.

Contrary to misgiving in certain quarters, the CET will not be conducted only in Hindi and English language, but in 12 Indian languages to begin with. Other languages in the 8th schedule will gradually be included, the minister clarified.
