Roorkee: The Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Roorkee said on Thursday that the total number of students infected with COVID-19 has mounted to 90. The infection count was 60 on Wednesday.
The IIT Roorkee media cell in-charge, Sonika Srivastava said that five hostels in the college — Coral, Kasturba, Sarojini, Govind Bhawan and Vigyan Kunj — have been sealed by the Haridwar District Health Department. Those hostels have been declared containment zones.
“The institute has about three thousand students, of which around 1,200 students live in these five hostels. At present, all students are being treated in hostels,” Srivastava was quoted as saying by Mint.
“The students who were preparing to come to the IITs, have been stopped till the next orders. All the students present on the premises have been instructed to take precautions,” he further said.
Uttarakhand has reported 787 fresh COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the tally to 1,05,498.
