Rourkela: The authorities of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela have asked students who have tested negative for COVID-19 to vacate their hostels.
The directive came after 14 students, including seven on Monday, tested positive for COVID-19. The infected students have been isolated under medical supervision.
According to Registrar Pradip Kumar Das, only those who have tested negative for the virus will vacate their hostels while those who have come in contact with the infected students will stay there. These students will undergo the COVID-19 test, he added.
“All students of UG, MSc, MA, and MBA programmes are now permitted to leave the campus with RT-PCR negative certificate only (tested at NITR camp). Such students need to vacate their room before leaving the campus. They can take back their luggage or keep the same in the designated places of the Hall with proper labelling,” an official communication stated.
There are around 2,000 hostel residents at NIT, Rourkela. Of them, nearly 400 students have undergone the COVID-19 test.
The NIT authorities have requested the district administration to deploy more medical teams for testing on campus.
