Bhubaneswar: Curtains came down on the 54th annual IIT sports meet jointly organised by the Bhubaneswar and the Kharagpur campus. Over 800 students from all the 23 IITs participated in various competitions.
IIT Bhubaneswar became the first of the second generation IITs to jointly host the sports meet which had begun on December 14.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Minister of State (Independent Charge), E&IT, Sports & Youth Services of the Odisha Government Tusharkanti Behera encouraged students to take sports seriously as it was being recognised as an important aspect of attaining success and creating a healthy mind, soul and body.
He also talked about youth empowerment and highlighted the importance of sports to shape up one’s personality in a holistic manner-bringing a synergy between mind, body and spirit. He said that sportsmen spirit is important to make this place a better place to live in.
“It was a courageous step and exciting to co-host the 54th Inter IIT Sports Meet, the first ever to be co-hosted by a 2nd generation IIT,” said IIT Bhubaneswar Director Prof R V Raja Kumar.
The function came to an end with the declaration of the winners in their respective categories. The deans, faculty, staff, students and family members also received applause for their active participation.
