New Delhi: The standing committee on admissions, Delhi University’s Academic Council will, on Wednesday, deliberate on the proposal of increasing 15% seats in all courses to accommodate the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota introduced last year.
This will be a part of many agendas to be discussed in the meeting today at 2 pm.
Last year, the varsity had increased the number of seats by 10% to partially implement the quota while the remaining 15 percent enhancement is to be completed in 2020-21.
The committee will also deliberate on having a complete online admission process for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for this year’s fresh batch, including the processes for admission to Sports, Extra-curricular Activity (ECA), and Children or Widows of Armed Forces (CW) category seats. Admissions against these categories previously required the physical presence of the candidates at the trials.
In its previous meeting, the universities had proposed June 8 as a tentative date to open the application window for DU Admissions 2020 for UG and PG courses. While the agenda for the latest meeting still carries the same tentative schedule, the admission dates are likely to change.
The council might further deliberate on the proposal that Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) 2020, be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
As per an NDTV report, the committee may “consider the proposal that the eligibility criteria of the UG and PG courses for admission-2020 will remain the same as considered for admissions in 2019-20.”
Moreover, it proposes that there will be no change in the online registration, correction and admission cancellation fee, and “additional registration fee for ECA or sports category”.
Earlier, a committee was constituted to make recommendations regarding admission against ECA and sports quotas. Further, the committee will discuss different issues related to the admission of reserved category candidates.
