New Delhi: More than 2.87 lakh students have applied for admission to undergraduate courses in Delhi University (DU) this year. A total of 3.53 lakh applications were submitted last year.
The maximum applicants are from the students of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
As many as 4,38,696 candidates enrolled for the about 70,000 seats in 63 colleges of DU on Tuesday — the last day of applications.
Out of the total applications, 2,87,227 are paid registrations which will be considered, the varsity said. In 2020, the registration portal opened on June 20 and closed on August 31, while this year the registrations will be between August 2 and August 31.
The highest number of applications were submitted from Delhi (1,15,928) followed by Uttar Pradesh (55,617), Haryana (37,743), Bihar (16,704) and Rajasthan (11,562).
More than 2.29 lakh applications were submitted from CBSE-affiliated schools, followed by 9,918 candidates from Board of School Education Haryana, 9,659 from Council for the Indian School Certification Examination and 8,007 from UP Board of High School and Intermediate Education.
The university is expected to announce its first cut-off list on October 1, but no formal announcement has been made as several CBSE students are appearing for physical exams.
