E-Learning Portal SWAYAM In Demand During Lockdown, Traffic Triples
New Delhi: As learners can now access the government’s education platform SWAYAM free of cost, without any registration during the lockdown period, traffic on the e-learning portal has tripled in the last one week.
Speaking about the escalated traffic, the HRD department, as quoted in Indian Express, stated, “About 50,000 people have accessed SWAYAM since March 23, 2020. This is over and above the 25 lakh students/learners who are already enrolled in the 571 courses of the January 2020 semester of SWAYAM. The platform has a repository of 1900 courses, which are now being accessed by people from over 60 countries include USA, UAE, Germany, Nepal, Singapore, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.”
Earlier, one had to register in advance for availing the courses of SWAYAM, which were time-bound.
As per reports, around 50,000 people are viewing the videos on the SWAYAM Prabha DTH TV channels every day and nearly 43,000 people are accessing the National Digital Library daily.
An increased traffic is also being witnessed by the education portals of NCERT including Diksha, e-pathasala, NROER and NIOS and the other ICT initiatives like Robotics education (e-Yantra), Open Source Software for Education (FOSSEE), Virtual experiments (Virtual Labs) and Learning programming (Spoken tutorial).
Meanwhile, Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhiryal has appealed to the students to make use of these initiatives and continue learning during their stay at home.
