Education Minister Holds Meeting With MGIEP, UNESCO To Discuss NEP 2020 Implementation

New Delhi: A high-level meeting with the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was chaired by Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal on Wednesday.

The meeting was held to assess the two organisations’ participation in the implementation of the Nation Education Policy (NEP 2020).

According to Pokhriyal, the education policy is in line with Unesco’s sustainable development goals (SDGs), and it proposes to develop Indian citizens on the lines of a global citizen. The NEP 2020 instils into them values of empathy, compassion and rational thinking, he said.

Unesco director Eric Falt, MGIEP chairman JS Rajput, MGIEP director Anantha Duraiappah, secretary of higher education Amit Khare, secretary of school education and literacy Anita Karwal and other senior officials of the ministry attended the meeting.

Highlighting the Union Government’s efforts to achieve the 2030 SDGs, the education minister spoke about the government’s initiatives like the world’s largest teacher training capacity building programme NISHTHA, digital learning through DIKSHA and the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan programmes that improves access, equity and quality of education.

Pokhriyal sought suggestions and co-operations from the stakeholders on the implementation of NEP 2020.
