The Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the higher education sector in the 18-23 age group has increased from 25.8 per cent in 2017-18 to 26.3 per cent in 2018-19.
In absolute terms, the number of students enrolled in higher education has gone up from 3.66 crore to 3.74 crore.
The All India Higher Education Report for 2018-19 released on Saturday revealed that
the GER for male population stood at 26.3 per cent and 26.4 per cent in case of female.
The GER for the Scheduled Caste stood at 23 per cent and 17.2 per cent in case of Scheduled Tribe.
The GER in distance education stood at 10.62 per cent. Out of them, 44.15 per cent are female students.
The number of universities has grown from 903 in 2017-18 to 993 in 2018-19 and the number of total higher educational institutes has grown from 49,964 to 51,649.
The strength of faculty increased from 13.88 lakh to 14.16 lakh.
