GES 2026: World Leaders Unite For AI-Driven Education & Research In Chandigarh

Chandigarh University is hosting the 6th edition of the Global Education Summit (GES), bringing together more than 90 academic leaders from 69 universities across 30 countries. The five-day summit, held from 5–9 October, aims to strengthen international alliances for academic collaboration, knowledge exchange, technology transfer and joint research initiatives.

AI for a Sustainable Global Village

Organised under the theme “Collaborations in AI-based Research and Innovations for Creating a Sustainable Global Village”, the summit placed artificial intelligence at the centre of discussions. Delegates explored how AI can drive solutions in climate change, agriculture, healthcare, and education while ensuring inclusivity and ethical use.

Romania’s Ambassador to India, Sena Latif, highlighted AI’s transformative role in connecting researchers worldwide, stating, “A student in Bucharest can now conduct research with a professor in Chandigarh… AI is accelerating this transformation by enabling real-time collaboration.”

Voices from Diplomats and Academics

UK Deputy High Commissioner Alba Smeriglio emphasised responsible adoption of AI, noting its potential to reshape research, innovation and higher education. Chile’s Ambassador Juan Angulo stressed equity, accessibility and ethics in AI development, while Prof. Matilde María Olarte Martínez of Spain underscored the importance of cultural diversity and sustainability in innovation.

Deep Inder Singh Sandhu, Senior Managing Director of Chandigarh University, said the summit strengthens India’s role as an academic bridge between developed and developing nations. With over 540 international collaborations across 100 countries, CU has become the first Indian university to achieve this scale of global engagement.
