Bhubaneswar: To encourage citizens to rediscover the habit of reading, a public library was opened at Integrated Public Service Centre (IPSC) Saheed Nagar here on Monday.
A collaborative effort of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), the library has books on Odia and English literature, various competitive and entrance examinations, health, well-being, fitness, history, contemporary Indian literature, religion, poetry and other subjects.
Twenty newspapers and 15 periodicals/magazines are also available for readers.
More space will be provided in near future with the addition of books and periodicals.
As of now, the library will be open from 10 am to 2 pm, while a 4 pm-7 pm slot will be added later.
BSCL and MMC expect the facility to benefit local residents, students, senior citizens, aspirants of competitive exams as well as people from nearby slums.
The authorities have said there is adequate security arrangement at the IPSC library to attract the female students and women of the locality.
A similar library will be opened at IPSC Bapuji Nagar once construction is completed.
