New Delhi: The Central government approved the setting up of a central university along with an integrated multi-purpose infrastructure development corporation for the newly-created Union Territory of Ladakh.
A union cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made the decision. The establishment of the central university will incur a cost of Rs 750 crore and the corporation with a fund of Rs 25 crore.
According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur, the university which will be established with a total outlay of Rs 750 crore, will be for areas of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh, including Leh and Kargil.
The Union Minister said the central university will work as a model for the region’s other educational institutions.
