Gurgaon: Teachers of state-run schools here have accused the authorities of not releasing their salaries after holding the teachers responsible for the lack of bank accounts opened in the students’ names for transfer of government benefits, reported The Times of India.
About 100 teachers of more than 35 government primary schools called the decision to not release their salaries “unfair”. The teachers sought the deputy commissioner’s intervention and submitted a memorandum.
“We met the deputy commissioner and informed him about the problems we are facing. The department held back our salaries for this month. When we raised objections, they wrongly accused us of not performing our duties. The department has held the teachers responsible for not opening zero-balance bank accounts for students,” district head of the Haryana Prathmik Siksha Sangh, Dushyant Thakran, was quoted as saying by TOI.
According to the teachers, they had flagged the issue of the banks refusing to open zero-balance accounts for the new admissions. “Apart from teaching, we are tasked with various other jobs. We never complain about that. But not releasing the salary, that too when we are not at fault, is unfair. There are several works of the department that are either delayed or full of errors. Many of its officials don’t even visit schools to take stock of the situation. But their salary is never held back. The rule should be the same for everyone,” a primary school teacher in Sohna block told the paper.
However, the education department here trashed the teachers’ allegations. “A section of the teachers has been found guilty of not performing their duties. As a result, several students are being deprived of the services they are entitled to. We have issued a warning to the teachers as such dereliction of duty will not be tolerated,” an education department official said.
